SNMP stands for Simple Network Management Protocol. It is a protocol for management information transfer in networks, particularly for use in LANs. PRTG uses SNMP for various network monitoring purposes, for example, you can monitor the status of your printers via SNMP with the SNMP Printer sensor.
What is a sensor in PRTG?
In PRTG, “sensors” are the basic monitoring elements. One sensor usually monitors one measured value in your network, for example the traffic of a switch port, the CPU load of a server, or the free space on a disk drive.
