With PRTG Network Monitor, Paessler delivers a world-leading monitoring solution that, thanks to a documented API and the support of various protocols such as JSON and MQTT, allows the inclusion of IoT scenarios and production environments beyond a standard IT monitoring solution.
However, many machines do not yet support IT-compatible protocols, but still communicate via fieldbus protocols. This is where the intelligent gateways of INSYS icom come into play.
INSYS icom: the connection between IT and OT
INSYS icom produces intelligent routers, which as gateways translate protocols from the production and industrial IoT environments into IT protocols and thus enable the communication between OT and IT. As typical edge devices, the gateways of INSYS icom form the interface between production plants and MES, ERP, SCADA and the cloud. They allow IT access to machines and production lines for condition monitoring and remote maintenance.

Create a central control center with PRTG and INSYS icom
Via the INSYS icom gateways, PRTG can retrieve data from the production floor which otherwise would not be accessible via IT protocols. In addition, the gateways allow PRTG to directly access the data of many machines, controllers and industrial PCs via MQTT. Thanks to PRTG's classic monitoring functions and mechanisms, a comprehensive and reliable monitoring of the entire production environment as well as of business processes and process chains can be mapped – the basis of every SCADA system.
In addition, PRTG monitors the IT infrastructure – at all levels, from classic availability monitoring to flow-based network monitoring, from hardware to virtual environments to applications.
Thus, production and IT can be combined in one solution, in one dashboard or control center. Of course, individual dashboards can also be created for individual teams via so-called maps, so that each person in charge can be provided with the information relevant to him or her at the precise moment it is needed – including a granular notification and alerting model. In combination with PRTG's mobile apps, this ensures that the responsible parties are informed immediately in case of failures and malfunctions as well as irregularities.
