Monitoring a CCTV surveillance system strongly depends on which data is available and shared by your devices. As a rule of thumb, however, if your device can communicate via SNMP or if you can pull data through any kind of REST API or HTTP API, PRTG has got you covered.
How PRTG defines sensors
In PRTG, “sensors” are the basic monitoring elements. One sensor usually monitors one measured value in your network, e.g. the traffic of a switch port, the CPU load of a server, the free space of a disk drive. On average you need about 5-10 sensors per device or one sensor per switch port.

Use Ping sensors to make sure that all components in your CCTV environment such as the power supply, cameras, NVRs and DVRs, as well as other storage systems are up and running.
