MRTG (Multi Router Traffic Grapher) is an open-source tool that monitors traffic on network connections mainly using SNMP. MRTG creates HTML pages with PNG images which provide a visual representation of this traffic.
Although useful, the software has its limitations. The installation of MRTG on Linux/Unix operating systems is difficult and requires the use of command prompts. If you want to set up MRTG (or configure MRTG later), you need to use a complex MRTG configuration file.

One sensor usually monitors one measured value in your network, for example the traffic of a switch port, the CPU load of a server, or the free space on a disk drive.
